Jacqui Getty and Her Perfect Bathroom and Her Perfect Life.

If you aren’t reading Into The Gloss something is fucking wrong with you. Either you don’t hang with me (obvi) or you aren’t a cool kid and I only hang with the cooliez. Anyways Into The Gloss has these amazing posts where they interview people who work in fashion, entertainment, cosmetics, and anything dealing with the industry and go into their home or bathroom or vanity! They ask about their beauty regimen and what they like and their life and the interviewie tells the story: no question answer shit just a straight answer… in story form. Its amazing.

Jacqui Getty is a stylist who has worked with many musicians and then went to magazine work. Her bathroom, y’all, is flawless. A timeless mix of old and new, young, fresh, grandma, plain, simple, chic… amazing. Her display of photographs mixed with random art structures and perfume bottles strikes my fancy. She has such a beautiful space and I’m so happy she shared for me to cry over wishing this is what I could turn my dorm into.

The 2012 Short Pump Town Center Project Style Style Off

Remember this summer when I was begging for votes to win my round and become a part of the finale of Project Style? Well thank you all if you did vote, or even just watched my video, because even though I didn’t win the lord works in mysterious ways (don’t I sound like an old ass black lady?) and I was asked to participate in the final round anyways!

(The oh-so-chic judges)

This time there was an event at Short Pump: A VCU fashion show, the project style event, and the mall showing off the latest fall fashions as well. All 5 of us were introduced and then we were set free into the mall with $200 and one hour to shop… ONE HOUR! I had to come up with a plan because I refused to be seen running around that mall like a chicken with my head cut off and only shopped at one store… it had to have shoes, jewelry, cool clothes and a dab of quirkiness and that store was Urban Outfitters. Everything I got I just grabbed with no after thought and no second guessing, and I was done way too early which freaked me out! I was so scared that I didn’t put enough thought into my outfit and I talked to my brother who soothed me and reminded me to just be myself!

The other contestants hit all the early fall trends, leather, sky high heels, texture, mixing patterns and staying feminine.

When it was announced that I won I honestly couldn’t believe it! Seeing my family so happy made me the most ecstatic girl in the world so many things were going through my head and then I thought “I just fucking won $1000 shopping spree… what the fucking fuck FUCK!” Yep all those fucks were in my mind.

(With Larissa of RVA Fashion Girl)

Now I have $200 to create a banging fall/ winter look and make a video to be sent into the national competition to win a trip to New York fashion week! Let’s Go!

NYFW Street Style

As we all know Tommy Ton is the God of all fashion street style and that he can shoot an arm party or a pair of Kirkwoods like no other mother fucker on this planet. Here are some of his shots from Fashion Week so far! Admire responsibly.

I found these amazing photos on Tumblr and couldn’t resists sharing on here. I love flower crowns and can’t wait to dawn one for my wedding (whenever that will be.) and I think what sold me about this crown was the volume and the delicate colors of the flowers, and y’all know I love flowers. I wish I could see more of her dress it looks so stunning!

From Boys To Men

Ah, my taste in boys (now men). It all started for real in the 8th grade if you wore fucked up jeans, a raggedy Old navy half zip pull over and some Adidas shell toes I was in lub. For all of high school it was about street wear. Mishka, Supreme, Nudie jeans, A.P.C, Original Fake, Bape all-a-dat was so attractive to little ol’ me until last year. Last year I turned 18 (WOAH, haha jplay I’m a baby) and realized that these boys wearing these brands looked like tools… total tools.

It’s funny because at a time where i was picky about how my boyfriend dressed and how if he dressed a certain way I wouldn’t even talk to him now, my single status has changed that completely. While yes I do care how a man dresses because fashion is important to me and I would like to have a guy friend who understands the difference between Indigo and blue (lawd) but, I don’t need anything flashy. That’s how my fashion taste has become as well: own a few nice things that look good and will last forever. That’s what i want, a man who dresses for the future not for what A$VP and Jeremy Scott collaboration is out now or shit like that but, a man who knows that if he buys that Barbour coat it will last him at least 3 sons to hand it down to. I am looking for a guy who looks for longevity and I believe that a guy who buys clothes to last knows about a lasting relationship!

Oh, and I guess I can add some photos of great looking men while we are on the topic, BANG,BANG.

Taming the Beast: Richmond’s First curly Hair Expo Part.2 “The Vendors”

Now, this expo would have only been half as amazing as it was if it wasn’t for the vendors! At this event everything was being sold that you could imagine a natural haired person would need! Natural hair products, handmade earrings and other jewelry to enhance your curls, cool clothing brands from the RVA area and vintage… y’all know how much I love my vintage! I regret not buying anything (all though my wallet doesn’t) but, it was so fun to run around to different vendors selling different things and learning their history!

Wow was all I can say when I saw this woman’s work for her crochet accessory brand Rebellion . This turban was about to me mine so fast but then my wallet cried out and I just stepped away from it… it was so hard! I asked her what brought her to crochet and she said she wanted to make it trendy and chic again to wear crochet and that it wasn’t just for grandmas, well said! I love her concepts and designs, they are chic and so not for grandmas… unless your grandmother is a bonified badass.

Beautiful vendor space design by a photographer at the event, that’s a lamp!

Had a great time talking to one of the founders and creators of an up and coming Richmond clothing brand called Wealth of Knowledge that I promise you will be spotting on every dude (including me, I count right?) on the east coast! Here is a creepy bit of information, saw the other founder of the brand at the movies last night but, all I saw was the big owl on his shirt at first and I freaked out to my cousin because I thought I spotted a random person wearing the brand… then I realized it was the designer and I was like yup seems legit to me (I wear my own stuff all the time guys!) And now I am even more of a creep because I didn’t say hello, just call me a creepster. Anyways, a less creepy fact is that the brand is really cool and even my brother likes it and said “Yo, get yo hands on dat apple pull over for me, shits hot.” so there you go guys “Shits hot.” Wealth of Knowledge (and be sure to follow their twitter!)

If you meet someone who is like “Pshhh I hate people that take things that I would throw away and make cool stuff out of it!” First you should slap them with something (something greenly made of course) and send them over to Alodeuri. From t-shirts turned in to cool “what the hell do I do with this?” necklaces to earrings, vintage and the most amazing necklace of all! This necklace is made from old jeans, t-shirts and vintage buttons. Amazing right! Oh and the vintage was on point as well so many cute dresses, skirts and bags!

These last photos are from vendors who I didn’t get a chance to talk to but could not overlook some of their pieces! This expo was so much fun and I truly enjoyed myself and loved meeting all new people who not only create but inspire! Please feel free to support these local business .

Flowers of Dior

Yeesh, It’s been a while since a post right? So much has been going on that I haven’t even been able to upload on here… what is my life?! From work to my birthday yesterday to editing photos from the Curly Hair Expo (Photos are coming up here so soon! I’m so behind!) it has just been wild y’all… wild.

Speaking of behind posts I have been meaning to post the flowers from the Raf Simmons debut Dior collection for like, a month. Yes, a month! I know you guys are thinking “Maya. What the flying squirrels have you been doing? Stop reading men’s wear blogs, listening to Twin Shadow and watching the Sex and the City marathons on the Style network and upload some damn posts!” What’s crazy is that all of my recent posts (this one included) are done at my job when I’m a wee bit on the bored side! What is my life you guys? Worst fashion blogger ever… anywho.

Look at how stunning this show was. And yes the new Dior was shocking and simple and chic and Raf, but those flowers are a dream in my heart (yes my heart dreams, what you gonna do ’bout it?!).

So many damn flowers that the woman in the background had to text her GBF about it. These flowers really go with my whole fleur du France and floral obsession thing I’m doing right now. I can’t be the only one who wants to go to London just to shop at Liberty and roll around in garden roses for hours right? Yeah, right!

I’m Obsessed With: The Satorialist Summer Street Shots

I wish I could take a deep breath of fresh, summer, ocean air and hold it until next summer and never breath again. For some reason this summer has been the most relaxing, passionate and exciting summer of all and it’s all most over. My job is over in 5 weeks, my birthday is in 4 weeks and I go back to school in 6 weeks! Where has my summer gone? Although it can’t be summer forever I can always go back to the amazing summer shots that The Satorialist took this year. Well Done!

This summer ranged from all over brights and flowing whites to dark and tailored. Fashion this summer was all about bringing back the old and vintage and recreating it into a new form of fashion.

This summer was about the goodwill finds, the thrifting trips with friends and the picnics on old blankets with Sanpelligrino and sushi held by raggedy baskets. This summer was about finding the old Vans from middle school and having them become your favorites all over again. This summer was about flowers picked from the backyard, white scented candles, 60’s rock and soul music, riding with the windows down in 100 degree weather. This summer was fun and this fall will be fun and this winter will be fun, and I think you get the point.

I’m Obsessed With: Lisa Crawford

I live my second life in Arlington, Va and Washington D.C. since, well, that is where I got to school. So when I’m not running around Richmond fashion shows I am working with designers like Reem Acra on local D.C. fashion shows. Speaking of Ms. Acra, coming 360 here, the fashion show that MU’s fashion club dressed for was with the Washingtonian… and that my friends is how I found out about this woman!

Her name is Lisa Crawford and she is a stylist, personal shopper and a Brooks Brothers Black Fleece lable stylist and specialist. Her style is my EVERYTHING. It’s just everything that I try to embody by mixing prep with street, high with low, J. Crew with J. Crew (you know how I do!) Her cool, funky and bold approach to prep is mezmorizing and show stopping and all I can say is that this school year if I don’t meet this woman and tell her that she is my neon spirit animal I just might jump into Georgetown traffic (bad joke right? Not even suicidal people would do that!) Look at these photos from her article on the Washingtonian and fall in love… Prada and Brooks Brothers LOVE!
